UEFA adopts “automation” in drawing the draw for its club championships

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced on Thursday that it will switch to an automated system for conducting draws for the club competitions it organizes.

UEFA stated that it will rely on automation for the group stage draws of the Champions League, Europa League, and Europa Conference League, instead of the traditional manual process.

The draws for these tournaments are scheduled to take place on August 29th and 30th in Monaco.

This change comes in response to the large number of teams participating in the three competitions, with each tournament featuring 36 teams competing in a single-round league format. The goal is to secure one of the top eight spots, which directly qualify teams for the Round of 16.

Each team will play 8 matches against 8 different opponents, facing two teams from each tier, with one match at home and the other away.

After the top eight teams qualify for the Round of 16, the teams ranked 9th to 24th will compete in play-offs to complete the list of teams advancing to this stage.
