French star Kylian Mbappé, striker for Real Madrid, said he had been dreaming of scoring at the Santiago Bernabéu for many years. He fulfilled that dream after netting twice against Real Betis in La Liga on Sunday, opening his account since joining the "Royal Club" from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
In a post-match press conference, Mbappé explained: "I had been dreaming of this moment for many years. Today, it has become a reality. It's a big moment and a great evening for me, certainly, because I had been planning to score at the Santiago Bernabéu."
The 25-year-old added: "I’m very happy, and it's not about feeling relieved because I knew it would happen. I’ve been scoring goals throughout my career, and I will continue to score more."
He emphasized that he didn’t feel pressured despite not scoring in the first three La Liga matches: "No, three games without a goal might seem like a short time to some, but for me, it felt long. People start talking about it, but I have the confidence of the club, my teammates, and the fans."
He continued: "The pressure isn't about not scoring; what I want above all is to adapt to the team, to the collective play, and to understand my teammates' movements, especially since I’m playing with a team whose style is completely different from my previous one. So I want to find harmony with their style of play."
He clarified: "Things are going well; I’m in a club where I wanted to be. We have a fantastic group of players; they’re not just exceptional players but also wonderful people. It’s easy to adapt in such a group."
Regarding his transition to playing as a central striker, whereas he often played on the left wing at PSG, he added: "This doesn’t pose any problem for me. I can play in all three attacking positions, as I did at PSG, at Monaco, or with the national team. My position on the field doesn’t concern me at all."
He expressed that he "clicks well with (Brazilian forward) Vinícius Júnior," saying: "I’m trying to understand his movements, his style of play. I still don’t fully know what he likes to do on the field, but I’m confident that with Vinícius and with the others, we’ll develop both tactically and technically. If we manage to communicate well, I believe we’ll have a great season."
