FIFA solves the Tunisian football crisis

The situation in Tunisian football has gradually improved after the International Football Association (FIFA) officially decided to appoint a temporary settlement committee to restore stability within the Tunisian Football Federation. This move aims to resolve the administrative vacuum and the uncertainty surrounding the start of the Premier League and the activities of the national team.

The official announcement of the start of the tripartite committee’s work to resolve the crisis in Tunisian football, along with setting a final date for the start of the First Division League, came as a pleasant surprise for clubs, fans, and football followers in Tunisia alike. This development follows more than 10 months of crises, administrative issues, and corruption suspicions that have plagued the football scene in the country.

FIFA agreed to appoint a settlement committee to address the crisis in Tunisian football, consisting of three members led by Kamel Idir, a former president of Club Africain, along with Chadhli Rahmani and Zakia Bartaji. The committee will manage the affairs of the Tunisian Football Federation for approximately six months, with its mandate set to end on January 31, 2025.

Since October 2023, Tunisian football has been facing an unprecedented crisis following the arrest of the federation's president, Wadie Jary, on charges of financial and administrative corruption and forgery. He was subsequently imprisoned on multiple charges, most of which relate to signing contracts in violation of legal procedures and committing financial, sporting, and administrative violations in cases filed against him by the Ministry of Sports.
