Aston Villa renews the team's goalkeeper's contract until 2029

Aston Villa, the English Premier League club, announced on Wednesday that it has extended the contract of Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, with the new deal lasting until 2029.

In a statement posted on its official website, the club said, "Aston Villa is delighted to announce that Emi Martínez has signed a new contract with the team, ensuring that the World Cup-winning goalkeeper will remain at Villa Park until 2029."

Martínez joined Aston Villa in September 2020, making an immediate impact by saving a penalty in his debut match. He was a standout performer in his first season, equaling the club's record for the most clean sheets in a single Premier League season by keeping 15 clean sheets.

Since joining Aston Villa, Martínez has made over 150 appearances for the club and has even captained the team on several occasions.

On the international stage, Martínez has also excelled with the Argentina national team. Since his move to Aston Villa, he has won the Copa América twice and played a key role in Argentina's triumph at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, helping his country secure its third World Cup title.
